Bloggers solve the fake note case

Yes, it was a fake 50 euro note that I had in my pocket. And I wondered how I got it. It was difficult to believe, but it seemed that I got it from an Atm machine.

I posted a line on my Italian blog. Bloggers started looking for information, posted their own experiences, shared ideas. It came out that it was not only possible: it happened. Atms can give away fake notes in Italy.

It seems that in many Italian banks it is the same person that accepts the money from the public and that charges the Atm machine. If he accepts a fake note, the bank will have him pay back personally. If he gets such a note he could be tempted to put it in the machine.

And it happens. Adusbef, a consumerist association, has denounced a number of cases like mine. But there is little reporting by the major newspapers. It will be reported this time: because I happen to work for la Stampa, an independent newspaper that will publish my story. But bloggers demonstrated a strong ability to contribute to the discovery of the truth... Which is another story, even more interesting...
